What Can Be Planted in Open Beds in July to Harvest Another Crop?

In July, some of your garden beds may become empty, making it a great time to sow other crops that will ripen before autumn. These crops include onions, watercress, lettuce, mustard, radish, spinach, and legumes.

What to Plant in July

In addition to fast-growing crops, you can also plant perennial plants in July, such as sorrel, batun onions, multi-tiered onions, rhubarb, and asparagus beans. Dill can also be planted for fresh greens.

After planting peas and green beans, you’ll have enough time to harvest before the season ends. Romaine lettuce will be ready by October. Once the sprouts grow, cut the lettuce slightly and continue growing it in a 20×20 cm grid until October. In the fall, mature lettuce can be dug up with the roots intact, placed in a basement, and stored in boxes until January.

Additional Crops for July

July is also a favorable time for sowing kohlrabi, Chinese cabbage, turnips, daikon, and winter radish varieties. Kohlrabi can be sown twice per season, and beds that previously housed early tubers, onions, legumes, or cucumbers are ideal for this crop.

We wish you a good harvest!
