Gardeners often prefer not to spend excessive time preparing roses for winter. To streamline the process, we offer a straightforward plan to efficiently handle this crucial task.
Begin with preparation by pruning the flowers and leaves. Remove any weak or diseased shoots to prevent disease and pests. Follow this with top dressing using potash and phosphorus fertilizers.
Next, loosen the soil to ensure the roots receive adequate air. Loosen it to a depth of 7-10 cm. An essential step is creating a mound of earth approximately 30-40 cm high around the roses. This mound provides protection against freezing temperatures.
Finally, move on to the actual sheltering process, which should be done when temperatures are consistently below freezing (5 to 7 degrees Celsius). Construct a frame over the bushes and cover it with a waterproof material, ensuring there is an air gap between the plants and the covering to prevent condensation.
