During the ripening of grapes, the berries begin to release a pleasant aroma that attracts wasps. These pests bite into the skin of the berries to enjoy the sweet juice. Sometimes, an invasion of wasps can destroy the entire crop, leaving only the skins behind. If you don’t take action, these pests will prevent you from enjoying your grape harvest.
How to Protect Grapes?
- Inspect nearby areas for a nest of wasps. If you find one, spray it with Dichlorphos, place it in a bag, and burn it in the fire.
- Hang store-bought sticky traps near the vines. These traps look like small houses; place sweet bait inside to attract the wasps.
- Lay out boards near the bushes, and smear them with rodent glue. Remember to update the glue regularly.
- Purchase special nets for vegetables and use them to cover your bunches of grapes.
- Cut plastic bottles in half, then pour compote inside. The wasps will enter and die, but don’t forget to remove the dead insects.
- Avoid using insecticides during the harvest period, as they can harm the grapes.
By following these simple yet effective methods, you can protect your grape harvest from wasps and enjoy a healthy crop.
