Growing healthy and strong cauliflower seedlings is a simple process that requires some rules and attention. This plant, although a little more picky than the white duckweed, attracts with its taste and useful properties, so it should be grown on your own plot. Let’s consider when and how it is better to plant cauliflower for seedlings.

When to Plant Cauliflower for Seedlings

The time of planting depends on where you plan to plant cabbage:

  • In open soil with transplant: mid-March.
  • Under the film in the open ground: the end of April – the beginning of May.
  • In the greenhouse: mid-May.

Seedlings grown in containers can be transplanted to the garden bed after 45 days. So, if you know the approximate date of planting in the soil, count 45 days back from this date – you will get the sowing time for cauliflower seedlings.

How to Properly Plant Cauliflower for Seedlings

Seed Preparation:

  • Choose the largest seed for quality seedlings.
  • Cover the seeds with hot water (about 50°C) for 20 minutes, then drain and place in a solution of potassium permanganate for 8 hours to disinfect and accelerate germination.

Soil Preparation:

  • You can use a mixed soil with peat, humus and sod land or ordinary land from the site, having previously poured it with a solution of potassium permanganate or boiling water.

Sowing Seeds:

  • The sowing depth is 1 cm, the distance between the seeds is 10 cm.
  • Sprinkle the plantings with a layer of ash to prevent “black leg”.
  • Spray crops with a sprayer.

Temperature Regime:

  • After sowing, keep the containers in a warm place (18-20°C), after germination, move to a cool room (6-7°C) for a week, then raise the temperature to 10-15°C for the next 10 days to harden the seedlings.

Point of View:

  • Transplant the seedlings 1-1.5 weeks after germination into individual pots or pots with drainage holes at the bottom.
  • Water sparingly to avoid seedling rot.

Hardening:

  • 12 days before planting in a permanent place, harden the plants again by placing them on the balcony or veranda during the day and removing them at night.
