The aphid is a harmful insect that multiplies rapidly, especially on cabbage, causing significant damage to the crop. Chemical preparations for its destruction can be dangerous and undesirable for use on edible crops. However, there are effective folk methods that can help in the fight against aphids on cabbage.
1. Planting Companion Crops
One way to protect cabbage from aphids is to plant it in between rows of other plants, such as carrots, dill, or other umbrella crops. These plants attract the natural enemies of the aphids, which helps reduce their population.
2. Use of Wood Shavings
Sprinkle the paths between the cabbage beds with wood shavings, which will create unfavorable conditions for the life of aphids.
3. Onion Infusion
Collect onion bulbs and fill them with water, infusing for half a day. After that, filter and use the infusion for spraying cabbage. This solution can help form a barrier against aphids.
4. Mixture of Nettle, Potato, and Tomato Tops
Mix these plant residues in equal parts and fill a bucket by 1/3. Then pour hot water over it. After two days of infusion, filter the mixture for further spraying.
5. Infusion of Hot Pepper
Boil 2-3 large pods of hot pepper in a liter of boiling water and let it infuse for a day. Then filter and dilute it to a volume of 10 liters of water. This infusion can be used to spray cabbage.
Please note that if aphids attacked cabbage last season, it is not recommended to plant it in the same spot the following year. By following these folk methods, you can reduce the number of aphids and protect your cabbage from their harmful effects!
