- Seedlings with an open root system: Late April to early May is ideal.
- Seedlings with a closed root system: These can be planted later, in late spring or early summer, as they tolerate transplanting better.
- Dig a hole measuring 50x50x70 cm.
- Add a 10 cm layer of drainage material (crushed stone or broken brick) at the bottom.
- Mix fertile soil with humus, superphosphate, and ash (1 kg each per pit) and fill the hole.
- Water thoroughly to settle the soil.
- Place the seedling in the hole, spreading out its roots.
- Ensure the root collar (where the root meets the stem) is approximately 50 cm deep.
- Cover the seedling with soil, leaving the upper bud (“eye”) about 5 cm below the soil surface. Compact gently.
- Water generously with warm water.
- Once the water is absorbed, fill any remaining hole with soil and apply mulch.
- Choose healthy seedlings free from damage.
- Soak the roots of the seedling in water for 2-3 hours before planting.
- Avoid planting too deep; the root collar should not be buried.
- Provide regular watering, especially during the first month after planting.
- Protect young seedlings from frost.
- Grapes thrive in sunny locations sheltered from strong winds.
- Regular pruning promotes better fruiting.
- Implement preventive treatments to ward off diseases and pests.
