To ensure a good harvest this year, it’s essential to feed your grapes with complex fertilizers in the spring and repeat the process in the fall.
Importance of Spring Feeding
Grapes absorb all necessary nutrients from the soil, making spring feeding crucial for their growth. It’s recommended to fertilize grapes three times, using fertilizers that contain nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium:
- First Feeding: After the swelling of buds.
- Second Feeding: 10 days before flowering begins.
- Third Feeding: When the berries are the size of peas.
How to Feed Grapes
For the first feeding, apply the following mixture under the root:
- Dissolve 2 tablespoons of superphosphate and 1 tablespoon of ammonium nitrate in 1 liter of hot water.
- Add 1 tablespoon of potassium sulfate to this mixture.
- Finally, dilute this in a bucket of water and water one grape bush.
For an alternative organic option, you can use dry chicken droppings:
- Dissolve 1000 ml of dry chicken droppings in 1 liter of boiling water.
- Let this mixture sit for three days. This amount is sufficient for one bush.
For the second top dressing, apply the following under the root:
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of boric acid, 1 tablespoon of ammonium nitrate, and 1 tablespoon of potassium magnesia in 1 liter of boiling water.
- Dilute this mixture in a bucket of water to water one grape bush.
- For spraying, mix the solution in 20 liters of water.
For the third feeding, again apply fertilizers under the root:
- Dissolve 1 tablespoon of monopotassium phosphate in a bucket of water.
- Avoid using nitrogen fertilizers at this stage.
By following these feeding guidelines, you’ll promote healthy growth and set the stage for a fruitful grape harvest!
