October is an ideal time to sow parsley for the winter, and by spring, you’ll be able to enjoy the first fresh greens of the season. However, to ensure successful growth, it’s important to follow the right steps.
Choosing the Right Plot for Parsley
First, select a plot suitable for sowing. You can plant parsley after crops like zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, and onions. These plants create good soil conditions for parsley to thrive.
Avoid planting parsley near dill and celery, as they can suppress each other’s growth.
Preparing the Soil
Before sowing the parsley seeds, improve the soil by adding river sand and humus. You can also incorporate nitrophoska and superphosphate as fertilizers to enrich the soil. After applying these amendments, make sure to dig up the soil thoroughly.
Planting Parsley
Create beds about 50 mm deep for sowing the seeds. The distance between rows should be 20 cm to allow for proper growth and air circulation.
To protect the seeds from being washed away by rain, cover the planted beds with polyethylene. This will help keep the seeds in place and maintain the right moisture levels for germination.
By following these tips, you’ll be able to enjoy a healthy parsley harvest come spring!
