You don’t have to wait until the middle of spring to enjoy the beauty of tulips; these flowers are quite easy to grow right on your windowsill! Here’s how to do it correctly.
Tulip bulbs go through a resting phase in the summer, which is an important factor to consider. The shape of the bulbs can vary, and from one to six scaly leaves grow beneath each bulb. Additionally, one bud develops in each sinus.
For planting, select whole, undamaged bulbs of medium size. You can use any pots for growing, but they should have a depth of fifteen to forty-five centimeters to ensure that the flowers have enough space and are not crowded. The soil should contain vermiculite and perlite to provide good drainage.
When planting, position the bulbs three centimeters apart with the sharp end facing upward. Larger bulbs should be planted at a depth of fifteen centimeters, while smaller bulbs can go in at a depth of eight centimeters.
Caring for tulips is similar to caring for other plants. Remember, the larger the bulb, the more frequently it will need watering. While you can add fertilizer if desired, it is not essential for growth. Follow these tips, and you’ll be rewarded with stunning tulip blooms in the spring!
