Don’t Forget to Beat the Spring Tree: Protect Your Fruit Trees from Illnesses and Mischief

In the fall, make essential adjustments to your garden care routine, and sapling maintenance is one of the mandatory procedures for protecting fruit trees. This process helps safeguard the bark from frost and rodent attacks, which in turn promotes a healthy and productive garden.

Why Do Young Saplings Need to Be Whitewashed?

Young trees require special attention. It is not recommended to simply cover them with whitewash. Without proper protection from pests and frost, you run the risk of causing damage. To minimize this, you can use dried fruits, dry alternatives, or even cultivate other trees to reduce the risk of harm to your entire garden.

Preparation of Trees Before Whitening

About 14 days before the whitening procedure, it is recommended to treat the wood with a disinfectant to clean the surface of the bark.

Recipe for the Whitening Mixture

For a fall harvest that ensures protection until spring, you will need:

  • 1 kg of slaked lime
  • 1 kg of tobacco sawdust
  • 200 g of copper sulfate
  • 100 g of Gospodar’s milk

Let the mixture sit for 4 hours before applying. You can also add 1 liter of white liquid to repel rodents.

The Process of Whitewashing

Apply the whitening mixture to the wood and main branches of the trees. This treatment will reliably protect your trees from frost and damage, keeping them healthy until the following spring.

Regular whitewashing will help protect your garden, ensuring healthy growth and a bountiful harvest.
