In the winter months, it’s important to care for indoor plants properly to ensure they stay healthy and vibrant. This includes the correct watering and feeding practices. If your plants have started to fade or seem weak, it may be a sign they’re not getting enough nutrition, and immediate action is needed.
Winter light deficiency can be a major challenge for indoor plants, and using sweet water is a great way to help them cope with this lack of sunlight. Certain plants, such as palm trees, dracaenas, roses, ficuses, and succulents, particularly benefit from sweetened water. Once a month, add sugar to your watering routine to provide additional nutrients.
However, never pour sugar directly into the pots, as this can create conditions conducive to mold growth and attract pests. Instead, the sugar should be dissolved in water before applying it to the plants.
You can water the plants with this solution, or spray the leaves and stems for added benefits. The recommended mixture is 30 grams of sugar dissolved in 1 liter of warm water.
Be careful to follow the correct proportions, as improper amounts can harm your plants. Too much sugar can lead to mold in the soil, and an excess of nutrients might trigger unwanted rapid growth—similar to what happens in the summer months.
Also, keep in mind that some plants, particularly those that bloom in the summer, require a period of rest during the winter. Only feed those plants that bloom in the winter months to support their growth cycle effectively.
