Many gardeners struggle with the growth of small and poor-quality garlic, even when using high-quality seeds. Proper care and nutrition are crucial for growing healthy garlic, and factors like the depth of planting cloves, the use of mulch, and the type of fertilizers also play significant roles.
However, there’s an effective technique that can significantly increase the size of garlic heads. Once the leaves of the garlic plants appear, use a pitchfork or a sharp stick to create vertical holes at a 90-degree angle, spaced 10-15 centimeters from the plants. Make sure to deepen the holes by 5-7 centimeters.
This process provides aeration, allowing the garlic sprouts to receive more oxygen and nutrients. As a result, garlic heads will begin to develop more actively, improving growth efficiency—especially in clay-heavy soils. Without proper aeration, garlic can become “suffocated,” leading to smaller heads.
Implementing this simple aeration technique can lead to a more bountiful and robust garlic harvest!
